Then you can rest easy knowing your company is HIPAA compliant and your clients' privacy is protected.
ARE YOU HIPAA COMPLIANT?
1. Does my business have HIPAA policies and procedures to protect PHI? Having policies and procedures in place lets you see there are no gaps in your security! (And you’ll be required to show them if you ever have an audit).
2. Have we had a Risk Assessment? If so, was our risk assessment within the last year? Risk assessments are required to identify where you might have vulnerabilities in your systems, both physical and digital. You need a new one whenever you have a change in your location or systems used.
3. Has my team completed our annual HIPAA compliance training? If so, do we have readily accessible and up-to-date records of the training? HIPAA requires everyone who handles PHI to complete HIPAA training annually. Your business must keep records of each employee’s training.
4. Is my business prepared to avoid a data breach? The healthcare industry is a major target for hackers, and fines for breaches increase every year.
5. Do we have signed Business Associate Agreements with our business associates or covered entities? HIPAA requires that you sign agreements with your covered entities or business associates detailing how PHI will and will not be handled and used.
If you answered "No" to any of these HIPAA compliance questions, you need to take steps to reduce your risk.
